Amazon.ca Product Description Virtual Drive emulates a CD drive, enabling you to create up to 23 file CD-ROM drives. Up to 1,000 CD-ROM cabinets can be created and run from any of the file CD-ROM drives. Once you build a Virtual Drive icon, you no longer need to physically switch to a CD-ROM drive, so the startup time of actual CD-ROM drives is eliminated. Virtual Drive uses the newest incremental caching technology--reducing CD-ROM access time by up to 75 percent--and supports most CD formats: CD-ROM, DVD-ROM (data DVD), video CD, mixed mode CD, photo CD, and audio CD.

Virtual Drive 7 Deluxe (actually ver.7 Personal?!?!) May 2, 2005 I bought several copies of the OEM VD7Dlxe from a reputable seller in Vancouver, BC, Canada and when they arrived they all had the same serial number. I returned them and bought others from an online seller in Oklahoma. They were "identical" to the ones from Vancouver. I contacted Farstone several times including phoning the Head Office. They were very closed mouthed when I insisted that each disk should have a separate serial number. I don't remember where I got all the following information... some here, some there, some speculation.VD7Dlxe OEM is identical to the VD7Dlxe (or Personal) version download from Farstone. It is a single user license which is enforced by using the same serial number for all installations. If more than one installation detect each other on a network then all but one will disable themselves. This is to keep multiple installations on networks from being possible without purchasing the Network Version. I do not know if VDP7 will operate in this manner if say... you are... online gaming with someone who has the same VDP7 on their computer??? This might explain some of the "stops working" problems. I do not know where the disabling item would be. It could be an altered file or a registry entry. If you completely uninstall, including all registry entries and deleting all residual Farstone Files & Folders, then re-install your VDP7 should work. To achieve a complete purge including the registry you may need to wait until you do a format and restore of your hard drive. I used Norton CleanSweep to track a re-install and then to uninstall but that may have just been 'dumb luck' when it worked. I have three versions of Virtual Drive up to VDPro8. I do not play network games so have had no significant problems. Farstone offers Upgrade pricing to previous users which might be worth looking into if you have a burner and can make a CD backup of your new program download. Another option is to try the network version of the software.
Virtual Drive April 20, 2004 I bought this program to run my daughters games so she wouldn't scratch her cd's. This is Awesome...It works Great...All the games I loaded run fine. After reading others reviews I guess it's just in what you're trying to load. For a parent who wants to save $$$ and not replace cd's this works great for my house!!
Suprise ending April 18, 2004 Perhaps I don't read the fine print often enough, but I was surprised one day recently that what I purchased was essentially a subscription for a year to this service. I rebuilt my OS, installed the application, and found that updates were not available because I had purchased it over a year ago. This rendered most of my virtual CD's useless. As reported in other reviews, my experience is that farstone ignores requests for assistance. Bottom line: good product (worked well for a year), bad customer support, sneaky pricing structure.
Problem with playing games from Virtual Image. April 7, 2004 I bought this program from Amazon and I can't play my games while mounting a "Fake" cd into the virtual drive. I have this problem with my CD and I don't have the money to buy a new one. Anyway I barrowed a CD-om from my friend and created a Image using this program. Just like it says: Play any game from CD-ROM at hard drive speed. And it did't work it say insert your original cd and not a backup cd. What do I do wrong I don't get it. Please help me with this problem. I feel tricked about this program it does not fullfill what it said it would. Please E-mail me if you know where the problem is. I have tried "Intelligt copy" and "ordinary copy" and it still don't work.
You are on your own with this one. February 8, 2004 If it works for you, it's great. But if you have any problems you will never hear a word from FarStone support. I find this very irresponsible and I would recommend everyone to run away from Farstone products. Their web page crashes when you submit a bug report and they never return support emails. I've sent several now. My copy used to work, now it's dead and useless to me. Too bad FarStone isn't putting more budget into their support. They could have had a great product.
